The Power of Perseverance...

After being laid off in August of 2018, I decided to take a crack at a childhood dream. I decided to get into the film industry as a filmmaker and screenwriter. I took as many online course as I could, read books, and binged on YouTube.

As a married man and majority breadwinner in my household, it was a bit frightening. For many, this would have seemed like down right stupid. However, I've always been a bit of a black sheep among family and friends. I never bothered thinking outside the box because the box missed me at birth I guess.

I'm blessed to have the most supportive wife in the world. Without her, none of this would be possible. After about three months, I finished three screenplays. Excited and full of optimism I entered them all into screenwriting competitions. Months went by as I waited for the results.... None of them placed.

Defeated, I took it a step further. I switched my undergrad studies from a business major to a film major concentrating on screenwriting. Now, here I am eight months later. Two semesters down and 5 screenplays later (not including rewrites).

I'm happy to say that my screenplay "Homegrown" is a semi-finalist in the WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Screenwriting Competition. Click the link or picture below for the official announcement.
